Animation & VFX: Career and industry growth (2018)

This is 2018, And there is no getting around the fact that almost all of us consume entertainment, commercials/ ads, Games etc. for at least an hour a day. Since the last 6-7 years, Animation/ VFX industry has immensely affected the entertainment industry. And why wouldn’t it be, Animation and VFX makes things much easier and more effective/efficient on the production side as well.

Globally, The animation Industry contributes about USD242.92 billion of the market share, Whereas in India (according to the India-FICCI Indian media and entertainment industry ) this industry is almost worth INR59.5 Billion. Mainly, This market is pretty popular in countries like The United States, Japan, India, China And south East Asia.

But surprisingly, Many people are still not aware of how valuable it is, to actually be a VFX artist.
If you are one of those people, let’s get this straight, Being a VFX artist holds the same value as being an IT professional.

Okay... enough of facts/ statistics, Tell me how fun it is?
Well, we got you
The Animation/VFX industry is combined with multiple exciting careers, where you get the opportunity to work with Movie artists/actors, directors as once you have got yourself into it, you are also a part of the production. It’s not as boring as sitting on a desk for straight 9 hours and maintaining databases, Or creating software, or developing (If that’s something that you are into, we are not saying that handling database is bad) but From an artist’s point-of-view, It would be much better if you were to work in an environment where work is more like having fun.
But how do I actually get myself in this industry?
Well, we got you again!
Now you know “How big is the industry”, “How fun it is” But how do you actually plan a career path in this industry....(especially if you have just graduated/about to graduate higher secondary)
To choose a career path, we recommend asking yourself the following 3 questions
• If you really want to pursue a career in it?
• Do you want to be further graduated with an animation degree or just a short-term animation course?
• Do you also want to join the master’s course after the Bachelors?

Now,
If you made a firm decision that you really want to pursue a career in animation then, you are left with two choices – either you take up a bachelor’s degree or do a short-term course.
We suggest to take up a degree course like B.sc in animation as it holds more value
We recommend choosing the short-term courses for people who have already enrolled themselves in other degree courses. It just adds up to your portfolio, which is good.
To wisely plan a career path, you also need to think about, “what after your bachelor’s course”
Hence, you will also have to decide if you were to join a master’s course like the “M.A in animation”
